THEMES
  • Materials Design
  • Materials Data Curation
  • Materials Analytics
  • Sustainability, Public/Private Partnerships; Industry needs/interests
  • Education, Workforce Development, Diversity - Industry needs/interests

The Summit will bring together researchers from major materials centers and data projects in the US and internationally as well as representatives from the Subcommittee of the Materials Genome Initiative (SMGI) for the US National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) Committee on Technology, science journal editors and publishers, and early adopters in key materials industries, such as automotive, aerospace, and pharmaceutical sectors.

The aim of the Summit is to galvanize community actions toward agreement, adoption, and implementation of evolving best practices through forward-looking keynote talks and output-oriented sessions. The Summit will be organized around 5 central themes with a small number of invited Keynote Talks leading into Panels and Working Groups. Recognized leaders in materials research, data curation/publication, and data analytics will set the tenor of the Summit on Day 1 followed by a reception with hands-on demonstrations and exhibits of major national and international materials tools and platforms. When Summit participants register, they will select in which Panels and Working groups they would like to participate during the Summit and will be able to download preliminary documents relating to the Working Groups. Panels and Working Groups will be held on Day 2 and Day 3 with a materials research poster session and the Summit Reception to be held at the end of Day 2. The Working Groups preliminary documents, available for download at registration, will be revised at the Summit to reflect community agreement and will be primary outcomes of the Summit.

We believe the NIST/CHiMaD Summit will provide an important and unique venue for collective discussions and agreement on best practices involving data and analytics for materials design as well as help lay the foundation for an interoperable, distributive global materials infrastructure.
